2009-04-30

Have you ever wished that you have all your tools and other things stored and organized well in your garage? Seems like an impossible task does it? Not at all! Even if you don’t have enough space or hooks in the wall, you can still have enough storage in your garage. What to do? Create yourself an overhead storage!

If your garage has a big space overhead, you’re lucky because you can build a storage that is not accident or headbump prone. It can actually be made from metal or pieces of wood that were left from your treehouse project.

Boxes can be placed on the top of your overhead storage and you can label it according to their uses. This would save you time when looking for the tools when you need it. It would also help if you would prevent it from swaying by attaching the ends or at least one end of the overhead storage in the wall. Impossible? Possible!

Avoid keeping the heat in your kitchen. Put some exhaust into it!

2009-04-29

Getting a smell of that nice and delectable mom’s cooking can make everybody stand up from their own chairs. Even dad watching the final game of Lakers vs Celtics can’t resist that delicious aroma. Although the smell is terrific, you wouldn’t want this to be all over the kitchen and even in other parts of the house would you?

Therefore, you must install exhaust fans in your kitchen. Aside from getting the smell from your kitchen, it also allows it to be smoke-free as well. Moreover, an exhaust fan is essential so that the grease and the moist will not build up when cooking especially if you are always grilling, frying, or steaming inside your kitchen.

The best type is the overhead exhaust fan where the smoke and other factors that may ruin your kitchen’s facade will directly go to the fan while you cook. If you will be connecting it to the roof, make sure that you also install a cap so that the rain will not enter your kitchen.

2009-04-28

A well-organized closet is one of the dreams of most moms. Unfortunately, you can only see this in the most spacious closets or cabinets and not everyone has ample space to accommodate all of your little trinkets and widgets. If your closet is just like the thousands of closets that needs more shelves but there is just no more space here are some tricks so you could still organize everything without leaving so much clutter.

1. Install wooden crates at the walls.

2. Have enough space between the crates so there would still be more shelves for other things like blankets and even small extra pillows.

Use big portable containers for your kids’ toys, shoes, and other items so they can just pull it out when they need it.

Add beauty and warmth to your house. Light up your outdoor area

Your patio and other outdoor areas in your house such as the garden and decks must have enough illumination especially during the night. Depends on what bulb or lighting system you use, your house would look very inviting even during the wee hours of the night. You don’t want your house to look like it is haunted during the night, do you? Besides, a well-lit house is also not prone to burglars and robbers who usually attack houses without enough illumination. If you are worrying about the increase in the electric bill, you can always buy dimmer switches. Or better yet, opt for a motion detector instead so that a part of your outdoor area will only light up if you are using the patio or the deck.

Safety when taking off your cabinet’s varnish

2009-04-24

Removing paint is different from removing varnish. First of all, it would be best if you will do this outdoors or any part of the room that has a great ventilation. If you’ll be doing it indoors, make sure that you have all the fan in front of you to avoid suffocation. Use rubber gloves because the chemical stripper for varnish can be very harsh. Then look at your closet for an old long sleeves shirt that you can wear while working. A protective eyewear or a construction eyeglass is also important as well.

To those who are sensitive to nasty fumes must have a respirator that is filled with charcoal. Charcoal absorbs all kinds of fumes even before you get to breathe it.

Removing paint easily

There is a kind of paint that you can remove just by using water. Just simply wash it with warm soapy water or use a hose then you can easily strip it to reveal the bare concrete wall or wood. This might take some time but at least you no longer have to spend another dollar for a paint removal system that works.

However, if you are in a hurry to doff your paint so you can immediately replace it in time for your great renovation project, you can always use a chemical stripper. Make sure though that you have rubber gloves that would protect your hands since it can irritate your skin. A mask or a respirator is also essential as well. Use a paintbrush then apply the chemical stripper over the surface where you want to take out the paint. After 15 minutes, you would be surprised to see that the paint scraper can take out the paint in an instant!
