2009-04-20

Stains in the carpet are inevitable. No matter how hard you prevent other people from spilling their drinks or food, accidents do happen. Both kids and adult can give you something to yank about at the end of the day. But don’t worry. Taking off the stain in the carpet is as easy as 1-2-3.

Make sure that you clean the stain as soon as possible. If the stain is still fresh, use a damp cloth and blot the spot where the stain is. Never scrub or the stain will just spread and dry easily, making it very hard for you to take it out. But if it already dried out, give it a few sprays of commercially available stain remover. Let it sit for a couple of minutes before you blot it with damp cloth until the stain disappears.

Carpets today are essential part of the house. Aside from the comfort that it can bring to everyone, it can be also a great way to accentuate any part of the house such as the living room, the bedroom, and other places in the house as well.

Although there are already different kinds of carpets in the market today, there are two main styles that are commonly bought by those who want to accentuate the floorings with carpets.

The first is called Loop Style pile. The end of this style is connected at the backing of the carpet giving it a very continuous loop that would complete the carpet. More often than not, this carpet style is used in rooms usually used like the living room since loop style carpets are more durable compared to the other type of carpet style.

On the other hand, there is also the Cut Style pile. All of the loops in this carpet style are cut. You will see that the ends of each loop are sticking out of the backing. This is actually similar to the sheer cut carpet style.

Below are some of the easy and great tips that you can use when improving and maintaining your bathroom floor and fixing water damages in this part of the house.

  1. If you want to create a chalk line when constructing your bathroom flooring, get pieces of chalk, and pound it inside the plastic bag until it becomes powdered. Drop the string then shake it to create an easy chalk line.
  2. Wait a few minutes after taking a bath then rinse the flooring of your bathroom before you leave. Soap residues can attract bacteria and dirt which can cause molds in the tiles.

If you can’t find the leak in the bathroom, put some colored powder in the floor (powdered colored chalk will do) so you can see which part of the bathroom has a lot of water leaks.

Laminated floor – it can be in various styles and can look like a ceramic floor, a wooden floor, or even stone. The materials used in laminated floors are similar to the countertop but only 5 times harder.

Water pressure is not the only thing to blame if your toilet is flushing like the toilets in the fancy hotels. Sometimes, the rim holes can get clogged which can cause your flush to malfunction. Clean these holes with a brush that has stiff bristles so you can doff the sediments and the calcium that built up. You actually don’t have to hire a contractor to do this unless you have extra money to pay him a hundred bucks. A simple brush can actually do the trick. Clean the rim holes at least once every two weeks or more often if you think that the water in your area can easily build calcium or sediments.

Get rid of that annoying door squeak

2009-04-14

If you have a wooden door, it is likely that you will hear it squeak every winter or rainy season. This is because wood expands during the cold days. More often than not, it no longer goes back to its original state so you will have to bear with the squeaking your whole life. There are also times that you have to push the door hard so that you could close it again and fit in its old frame. If this is one of your home problems, you can simply use a rotary tool that has a different attachment.

The edge of the door can be shaved off and the squeak will be gone in no time at all. On the other hand, if it is the hinge that you are having trouble with, never use an oil unless you want to see messy oil drips that can even stain your carpet or floor. Instead, use a petroleum jelly. It works just the same without leaving any mark afterwards.
