Proper pool maintenance

2009-05-20

Families can simply bond and have a great time at the pool especially during the summer. However, without proper maintenance, your pool would end up to be very old, filthy, and unhealthy for everyone to swim in. If you want to prolong the life of your pool, make sure that you take care of it like the way you take care of the interior of your house.

Even when not in use, see to it that you free it from debri such as branches, leaves, and others that may discolor and pose threat to everyone who will be using the pool. For easy removal, you can use pool skimmers either automatic or manual.

The pool’s filter must also be checked at least once a day. This helps your pool to be really clean and healthy as well.

Don;t forget to put small amount of chlorine in your pool. Don’t overdo this to prevent skin problems and eye irritation to everyone who will be swimming in.

Designing a kid-friendly home

2009-05-18

Rather than being a house, your family’s shelter should be a home. When designing and furnishing it, you must also keep your little kids in mind.

If possible, affix your furniture and storage in your wall to prevent accidents.

Window cords  must also be keep out of their reach as well. Try using cleats which are available in most stores selling home-improvement products.

Make sure that the electric sockets have safety covers (usually available in electrical stores) to prevent your kids from poking the plugs with their finger or other things like fork or stick.

Children can be very imaginative at times. If they have huge toy boxes or toy chests, drill a few holes. Just in case that they decided to hide in their, they can still breath inside.

Would you consider getting a home security camera?

2009-05-13

It is not just the business owners today who are using security cameras to prevent their businesses. Homeowners can also take advantage of this technology so that they too can protect their assets. With the help of the recorded data from the security camera, crimes like robbery, harassment, and other forms of violence can be easily given justice if not prevented.

This is essential if you have someone else who would look after your child as well. There are already hundreds of cases each year related to nannies or babysitters abusing little child when parents are away. You can also make use of these security cameras if you have teenagers left unsupervised at home.

Choose between the colored and the B&W security camera. They have the same purpose but you can see things clearly in a colored cam. Of course, it is also more expensive compared to the other one. You may also buy a security camera which can record sounds at the same time so you could hear clearly the details that is happening around your house while you are somewhere else.

Do you think this is important? Or you think that it may bring up privacy issues especially to your young adults?

Breath fresh air inside your home

2009-05-12

When you’re outside your home, you feel that you and your family can no longer breath real air with all the pollution that you can face in almost any part of your environment. If only wearing masks would not make you look stupid in front of the other people then you would probably do it just to make sure that your family is inhaling air that would not harm their health. But have you considered your own home? Do you think that your family’s health is safe and the air that you breath in your own shelter is not polluted? Better think again. With all the chemicals and aerosols that you are using, it is also possible that the air inside your house is just as polluted as the air outside.

If you really want to breath clean air without going to the mountains, try getting an air purifier for your home. This will help clean everything (from dust to the smallest particles that you can inhale) so you can rest assure that your family is free from the threats of lung problems. This is an ideal home tool for those who have allergechronitis, asthma, and alike. Families who are smoking as well can eliminate the odor of the cigarette and prevent the stench from lingering in their homes with the use of the air purifier.

Why do you need a medicine cabinet?

2009-05-08

Accidents do happen even if you are only inside the house. Minor cuts and burns do not need a doctor’s attention, just a mother’s caring hand and your first-aid kit from your medicine cabinet.

Installing a medicine cabinet in your bathroom is essential so you can have a place where you can put all the band aids, alcohol, bandages, and other safety kits together. This would help you save time looking for the right things to use by the time you need it. The size of your medicine cabinet will depend on how many would you like to put in it.

And of course, as its name suggests, you can also put different kinds of medicines here as well. Make sure that all are properly labeled and arranged to avoid confusion when taking these medicines. However, it is not advisable to put syrup medications here in this cabinet because it needs to be refrigerated. It must not also be installed in places where kids can reach so they would not take unneccessary medications and prevent accidents at the same time.

Adding home security with motion detectors

2009-05-04

Dogs can be really noisy at night. It can even make your neighbors call the cops just because of the irritating sound especially when everyone else is fast asleep.

A great option if you would like to give your home security and give yourself a peace of mind at night is to install motion detectors at the outdoor areas of your home. Check out the manual that comes with these motion detectors. More often than not, you just have to replace the current lighting fixture that you have at your front door, backyard, or other outdoor areas.

What to use when removing your furniture’s paint

2009-04-25

An effective chemical that would help you take out the paint out of your furniture is the Methylene Chloride. This is a very abrasive chemical which can cause harm to your eyes, skin, and lungs when used without precaution.

Free the furniture from dust or any debris. Once you already have a mask and other things that would prevent you from getting accidents because of the methylene chloride. Pour the chemical directly into the furniture. Don’t worry, this would not spill. The methylene chloride is wax-like so that it would not evaporate instantly. Use a paintbrush to even out the chemical on your furniture. Then cover it with waxpaper to avoid the spread of the stench and the prevent the chemical from evaporating easily.

Safety when taking off your cabinet’s varnish

2009-04-24

Removing paint is different from removing varnish. First of all, it would be best if you will do this outdoors or any part of the room that has a great ventilation. If you’ll be doing it indoors, make sure that you have all the fan in front of you to avoid suffocation. Use rubber gloves because the chemical stripper for varnish can be very harsh. Then look at your closet for an old long sleeves shirt that you can wear while working. A protective eyewear or a construction eyeglass is also important as well.

To those who are sensitive to nasty fumes must have a respirator that is filled with charcoal. Charcoal absorbs all kinds of fumes even before you get to breathe it.
